Most people assume that anyone with a phone, microphone and an obnoxious opinion can start a podcast. That may be true but what is also true is the millions of individuals who start that podcast and don't make it past six episodes. To produce something of quality, the hours may run long. Developing a podcast from the ground up requires more stamina than many would assume that it does.

I have been podcasting for six years and respect and appreciate the craft. If I worked my way into breaking into the professional side of podcasting, I have noticed the common discourse amongst the public.; Podcast stink is just a hobby". This grinds my gears when I know the hours of dedication that I put into my work and that my colleagues in the industry also put into the work as well. Podcasting is not just the modern version of a Soundcloud rapper. Soundcloud rappers are rappers from the 2010s who began rapping on SoundCloud and blew their audience up. Many rappers did it as a hobby and some became popular and famous. For example, Lil Uzi Vert, Doja Cat, Lil Yachty, and Rico Nasty are amongst the class of rappers who began on SoundCloud.

Today, I would not call these rappers "SoundCloud rappers ". They are legitimate to their field and their professionalism and dedication to the craft allowed them to move beyond the platform. I applaud these creative for what they have been able to do. However, this is not the case for Podcasters. There are many outlets for producers, Host, and scriptwriters to get their podcasts to different audiences. There is a professional ecosystem that includes conferences, networking groups hedge hunters, and funding for podcasts today.

With the ushering in of the "Alpha Male podcast "genre, more people are starting podcasts and dishing out junk into the atmosphere because they feel they have the audacity. When folks have approached me to start a podcast, I ask them why and if they can handle the hours that it takes. This is why podcasting is more than just a community of hobby-driven individuals. Podcasters are brilliant, strategic, extremely creative, and dedicated to the work of producing something that is valuable to the listener.

It's time to put some respect on our names.
